Expanded High Level clinic opens to patients

October 2, 2026

HIGH LEVEL – A new expanded primary care clinic at the Northwest Health Centre is now open, creating more space to provide care for people in High Level and surrounding communities.

The clinic opened to patients October 1, 2026, and is being celebrated today with a grand opening attended by physicians, community representatives and local partners.

The approximately $11 million project, funded by the Government of Alberta through the Rural Revitalization program, expands the clinic from seven exam rooms to 28, and brings clinic staff together in one location at the front of the Northwest Health Centre.

The new space includes two specialty pediatric rooms, a bariatric room, two procedure rooms and a consultation room. The additional capacity will support existing services and provide more space for physicians and other healthcare professionals to care for patients.
“Albertans should be able to access high-quality primary care close to home. By expanding this clinic from seven to 28 exam rooms, we are creating more space for healthcare professionals to work together and provide timely, connected care for families in High Level and surrounding communities.”

- Justin Wright, Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services

“This expanded clinic is an important investment in primary care for High Level and surrounding communities. Having more space and bringing healthcare teams together under one roof will help us provide more coordinated care and support better access for patients.”

- Kim Simmonds, CEO, Primary Care Alberta

The clinic provides family medicine services through nine physicians, a walk-in clinic, access to chronic disease nurses and a community social worker. The expanded facility also creates opportunities to increase appointment capacity and accommodate additional healthcare providers and services in the future.

The clinic serves High Level and surrounding communities, including patients from eight Indigenous communities in the area. An Indigenous Facilitator is also joining the clinic for its first year to help patients navigate the new facility and connect with services at the Northwest Health Centre.

“It is exciting to see patients receiving care in this new space. Moving from seven to 28 exam rooms gives our team significantly more room to provide care, while having staff together in one location will make it easier for us to work as a team and support our patients.”

- Yvette Nault-Swinerd, Clinic Manager, Primary Care Alberta

Construction began in 2025, with the clinic previously anticipated to open in 2027. The clinic is located at the Northwest Health Centre, 11202 100 Avenue in High Level.
