Men’s Health Month: Staying healthy helps you keep showing up

June 25, 2026

ALBERTA – Summer in Alberta brings long days, busy schedules and making the most of a short season.

For many men, that can mean more time outdoors, construction and seasonal work, family activities, travel, community events and summer traditions—from the Calgary Stampede and K-Days to local fairs and festivals across the province.

Taking care of their own health can sometimes slip down the priority list.

June is Men’s Health Month and Primary Care Alberta is encouraging Alberta men to think about health the same way they think about maintaining a vehicle, preparing for work or looking after family: small steps now can help prevent bigger problems later.

“Taking care of your health is one of the most practical ways to be ready for work, family and community life. Men’s Health Month is a reminder for men across Alberta to make their health a priority. Ask questions early and take small steps now that can help prevent bigger problems later.”
Justin Wright, Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services

“Primary care is not just for when something is wrong. It helps people stay healthy throughout all stages of life, by asking questions early, building healthy routines and staying connected to care and support over time with trusted health care providers and teams. Proactively taking care of your health helps you keep showing up at your best—for work, for family and for the activities that matter most."
Dr. Mike Spady, Interim Chief Medical Officer, Primary Care Alberta

Whether you are a dad, brother, husband, coach, business owner, tradesperson, rancher, retiree—or simply someone with people counting on you—taking care of yourself helps you keep showing up. Men’s Health Month is a reminder for men across Alberta, including those living in rural, remote and Indigenous communities, to make time for their health.
